Many of us want to help reach people for Jesus. We pray for relatives and friends to be saved. Sometimes, we see results rather quickly, and people are saved! But, sometimes, we pray and pray and pray, and nothing seems to happen. I firmly believe our Heavenly Father can cause circumstances to happen that make it more likely for a person to be saved, and you could be praying for that to happen. Maybe the person you are praying for needs a little push, and maybe the thing that needs to happen is for you to be the person to make the push. God has obviously placed the person on your mind. If not you, then who? Day after day might go by with the person not even thinking about eternity or anything related to it, so maybe it's time you got them to thinking.
You might be asking, "How can I accomplish this?" I think an "in person" visit is the best way to reach people for Jesus. If you have the nerve to do that, I think that's fantastic. However, a lot of us just can't bring ourselves to visit in person. It seems particularly difficult to talk in person about a relative's life after death. Lots of people would rather witness to a stranger than to a relative. The next best thing might be a letter. Actually, a handwritten letter is better than a typed letter, I think.
Here is a letter that I recently wrote to a relative. Feel free to use this as an example while changing or adding a few of the words to fit your person's situation.
Hi (Person's name),
I hope you are doing well. It’s been a while since I saw you. I really miss those get-togethers we used to have at the old home place, especially on Christmas eve. It was always fun to talk to you guys. It seemed like you were always laughing, and a lot of times someone would be trying to play a joke on you. Those were fun times.
I’m not 100% sure why I’m writing this note to you right now. All I can say is I get this feeling that God won’t let me alone until I write it. Maybe it’s partly because I can really relate to you since we both have farming backgrounds, and we both believe in hard work, or maybe it’s just that I like you!
I don’t know what your relationship is with Jesus. If you have not trusted Him, by faith, as your savior, I think it would be just great if you would do that right away. You are such a friendly person and do good things. But, as I’m sure you know, doing good things doesn’t get you to heaven. If you would give your heart to Jesus, there’s not a better feeling. It takes a step of faith, but then you will know. And, I’m sure a lot of your family would be tickled to death. Feel free to call me at 864-xxx-xxxx or talk to the folks at your church.
I do hope to see you sometime. Maybe the family will have a big get-together soon. God bless you, buddy. Tell everyone hello for me.
Take care,
(Your name)
Also, I included a page almost exactly like the one in this website that you can see if you click on the "Jesus" section at the top of the website. It uses the word "FAITH" to show someone how to be saved. I did not handwrite that page. Feel free to copy it. The person might be led to be saved but might not be sure how to do it, so that page might help.
You might be concerned about what the person will think of you if you contact them. I wouldn't worry about that too much. They will very likely think that you care enough about them and enough about Jesus to go see them or to write the letter! You could probably handwrite a letter like the one above and put it into the mail in less than an hour. Whether it's a personal visit or a letter like this, I'll bet our Heavenly Father has placed someone on your mind who might need a little push. Be the one!
May God always be your number 1 draft pick!
