Here are the teams that could be involved in the 12 team playoff as they were ranked by the committee on November 26 and the way I see it ending up.
Current ranking...
1 - Oregon
2 - Ohio State
3 - Texas
4 - Penn State
5 - Notre Dame
6 - Miami
7 - Georgia
8 - Tennessee
9 - SMU
10 - Indiana
11 - Boise State
12 - Clemson
13 - Alabama
14 - Ole Miss
15 - South Carolina
16 - Arizona State
18 - Iowa State
20 - Texas A&M
I left out the teams that I think have virtually no chance to advance.
Do not be deceived into thinking the top 12 teams will make the playoffs. That will not happen. No chance. The reason is someone will win the conference that Boise State is in, and someone will win the BIG 12 which should be either Arizona State, if they beat Arizona, or Iowa State. Those conference winners will get in, so the winner of Arizona State and Iowa State will bump out the number 12 team.
Here are the 12 teams I think will get in...
Oregon
Ohio State
Texas
Penn State
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Georgia
SMU
Indiana
Miami
Boise State
Arizona State
Here are the six teams on the outside looking in and what it would take for them to make it...
Clemson - If Miami loses to Syracuse, Clemson is in the ACC Championship Game and would need to beat SMU to make it in. If they don't beat SMU, then Alabama and Ole Miss would pass them by. The only other way they might get in would be if they beat South Carolina so convincingly that they move ahead of the loser of the ACC Championship which would be SMU or Miami. I think since those teams made the conference championship, the committee would not penalize the loser unless the loser gets absolutely hammered.
Alabama - I think they need Notre Dame to lose to Southern Cal and Clemson to lose to South Carolina.
Ole Miss - I think they need Notre Dame and Clemson to lose along with Alabama losing to Auburn.
Iowa State needs to beat Arizona State in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Texas A&M - They must beat Texas to have a chance.
South Carolina - Unless they hammer Clemson, I don't see the committee moving them ahead of all the teams ahead of them. They need to win by about 20 to have a chance in my opinion, but they might be the hottest team in America other than Oregon at the moment.
May God always be your number 1 draft pick!
