Verse for today...
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee. Isaiah 41:10a
Most of us who experienced Hurricane Helene have stories about what happened to us. A lot of them are bad, really bad, but I have a testimony to give about what happened just a few hours after the hurricane came through on September 27. Here is what happened.
The electricity went out at my house about 7:00am on September 27. After about three or four hours, I realized that it wasn't coming back on any time soon, so I decided to get out my gas generator so that he food in my refrigerator and freezer could be saved. I put gas in the tank, choked it, and pulled the rope. The generator didn’t want to crank. I tried cranking it about 50 times. It gave me no sign of starting at all. I tried not choking it. No help! I'm not a mechanic at all, but I thought it might be a bad spark plug. I unscrewed the spark plug from the motor while leaving it attached at the top and pulled the rope. I could tell a spark was there, so it wasn't the spark plug. I put it back together and tried cranking some more with no luck. I wondered if it had a bad fuel pump. I don't even know if generators have fuel pumps! It had taken me about 90 minutes to determine it was not the spark plug but the gas was not feeding into it somehow. I tend to drain all of the gas out of anything that uses it if I don't plan to use it again soon, so I do not think I had any bad gas left in the lines and none in the tank from the last time I had used the generator in 2018.
By now, I've probably pulled the rope over 100 times. Finally, I just asked God if He would please let this thing crank. On the second or third pull, it fired up! Even though I had asked God to help, I was somewhat stunned. Tears came to my eyes. I got the fridge and freezer running from the generator, but that paled into insignificance to what I learned and felt that day. Why was I even surprised?! Thank you God for your faithfulness and for being there when I asked for help.
May God always be your number 1 draft pick!
